Interstate Engineering partnered with the City of Gillette, Wyoming, to evaluate, demolish, and replace the aging City Pool facility. Serving a community of approximately 34,000 residents in Gillette and nearly 50,000 across Campbell County, the pool is a key recreational asset for families in the region. The original facility had reached the end of its service life and presented safety concerns related to deteriorating infrastructure and site instability. The city engaged Interstate Engineering to assess existing conditions and develop a comprehensive demolition and replacement plan.
Our evaluation identified significant issues with aging pool piping and a failing storm sewer system, which contributed to erosion and slope instability along the adjacent hillside. These conditions posed risks to both the facility and the surrounding property. In addition, the pool’s outdated water treatment systems and aging structures no longer met modern operational standards. Interstate Engineering developed a demolition plan for the existing facility while designing a new pool complex to address both infrastructure deficiencies and long-term community needs.
The new design included upgraded pool plumbing, a modern storm water management system, new water treatment equipment, a renovated bathhouse and mechanical building, and a new tower waterslide. Site improvements were carefully coordinated to stabilize and repair the adjacent hillside during construction. Interstate Engineering provided design engineering, structural engineering, site design, survey, planning, funding assistance, public involvement, and project management services. Our team also delivered construction engineering and on-site observation throughout the project to support quality implementation.
Completed on May 20, 2025, the $5.7 million project was funded through the City of Gillette General Fund and the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Through thoughtful planning, coordinated design, and active construction administration, Interstate Engineering helped the city transform an unsafe and outdated facility into a modern aquatic center. The result is a safe, durable, and engaging recreational space that supports the city’s commitment to providing high-quality recreational opportunities for decades to come.
