Interstate Engineering partnered with the Horace Park District to redevelop Freed Park into a modern, fully updated recreational facility serving residents of all ages. The project involved removing aging park amenities and constructing an entirely new set of features that better reflected the community’s needs and long-term vision for public spaces. Improvements included a paved parking lot, a new baseball and softball field, batting cages, a dedicated playground area, pickleball and basketball courts, a storage shed, upgraded drainage, new irrigation systems, and comprehensive landscaping enhancements.
The redevelopment required careful coordination of site grading, drainage, recreational design, and utility placement so that each amenity functioned well and the park layout remained cohesive. Interstate Engineering provided design engineering, surveying, project management, construction engineering, and construction observation services to deliver a reliable, high-quality public facility. The design emphasized durability, accessibility, and multi-use functionality, allowing Freed Park to serve the Horace community for many years to come.
By constructing these improvements, the Park District was able to offer residents a significantly expanded and modernized recreational space that supports active lifestyles, community events, and youth sports programs. The project team was led by project engineer Eric Larson, with field observation by Loren Bothun.
